Just read an article talking about the hostile offer by APM for Read-Rite, and how MR heads cost is 40% of price of a MR disk drive! If torodial/FC can be made market ready, how can it be ignored, when your highest cost item can be made for less and perform better, with higher yields (read, less thrown away defectively manufactured heads) and maybe even cheaper than inductive TFI heads. Also, remember reading how the 300Mbit/sec transfer rate is perceived as a barrier to most heads, don't know if they can break thru this colossal figure, and then remembered that torodial heads reading a KM platter can achieve 500Mbit/sec! Just have to wait for it to get out of the labs and into the press and wall street, and finally eat MR's lunch. Would be nice to see Seagate and IBM crawl on their knees after being MR titans (thanks to AXC inventing MR 25-30 years ago!) and begging to be able to license torodial/FC after pouring billions into MR. Wonder if that'll be the scenario a couple years out.
