Yes, steve, I had to run to the pharmacy to pick up some Zithromax for my son, and I realized that you meant the Fed Open Market Committee. I doubt that they will raise interest rates, though. On the other hand, if he really wants to whack the market, but not the economy, he could change the marginable percentage for stocks. He could for example say that you could only borrow 30% of the value of your marginable securities, resulting in widespread margin calls, and a general stock selloff. They don't do this often, but its effect is very targeted.
