There is another reason why dimd may win this "home networking" war from coms. Coms has to take a big step DOWN to play in this market. This will not be as lucritive as the commercial market. Right now Comms is going to have their hands full with some litigation, the execs pumped a boatload while the company made a half hearted attempt to warn. For Dimd, this same mkt is brand new, and they are not burdened by the baggage of the old high margins. They should be faster, slimmer, and non-confrontational. In short, they stand a better chance of making a profit than coms.
