"Do you believe that Salem was in fact Jerusalem?"
Hi Chris, Good to hear from you. I pray that the Lord is keeping you daily on the path of seeking his Kingdom in purity and peace of mind.
Yes. I think Psalm 76 answers that question.
Psalms, psalm 76
"1": In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel.
"2": In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion.
I also believe that Melchizedek was one of the theophonies (or appearance) of Jesus in the Old Testament days. The visit to Abraham before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was another. He is called the King of Righteouness and the King of Peace(Salem). This was symbolic, and did not indicate that he was the worldly king of ancient physical village of Salem.
Hebrew 7 further clarifies this mystery: 1": For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
"2": To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
"3": Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
May the Lord continue to keep you and guide you into the fullness of his love and grace.
