Jim : I'm not sure of the reason why gold shares will rise. POG is not very exciting. Could just be a re-appraisal of the share values or expectation of inflation due to rise in commodity prices. Or, perhaps, "da boyz" know something.

AngloAmerican and DeBeers have each appreciated by about 50% in the past few weeks (on JSE). Usually when that happens, the golds move too.

As you may know, there are only two main SAf gold companies now -- AngloGold and Goldfields. Then there's JCI gold. And after that there's Harmony, DRD (both in the low grade section) and Randgold. So, there's not very much to choose from. Of these, Goldfields has hardly moved. I imagine ASA would, today, just be a mix of AngloGold and Goldfields.
