DiviCom Sets Market Record by Delivering Over 5,000 MPEG-2 Encoders for Digital Television
DiviCom Delivers 5,000th MediaView Encoder to MediaOne

Las Vegas - April 19, 1999 - DiviCom, Inc., a wholly-owned C-Cube Microsystems (Nasdaq: CUBE) subsidiary and a leading provider of open solutions for digital television, announced today that it has set a landmark record of delivering more than 5,000 MPEG-2 encoders to its customers worldwide.

As the total number of DiviCom encoder sales maintain their steep climb, the company continues to outpace industry competitors. To date DiviCom products have been installed at more than 400 customer sites spanning 38 countries and 6 continents. By adopting the open solution philosophy of DiviCom, digital television service providers have made the MediaView(tm) the world's most widely used MPEG-2 encoder.

"As the world of professional television goes digital, the market for MPEG-2 encoders is exploding. DiviCom and its parent, C-Cube Microsystems, have many years of experience delivering MPEG-2 encoding solutions for satellite uplinks, digital Cable TV head-ends and wireless cable systems," said Gerry Kaufhold, Principal Analyst with Cahners In-Stat Group - an Arizona-based market research company. "Nobody has shipped as many standards-compliant MPEG-2 encoders. The rollout of Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting evidenced here at the NAB will be a fertile market for DiviCom's newest MPEG-2 encoding products."

MediaOne Receives 5,000th Encoder

Representing this historic achievement for DiviCom and the digital television industry, MediaOne representatives will accept an award at the NAB trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada. MediaOne, the broadband services arm of the MediaOne Group (NYSE: UMG), will install DiviCom's 5,000th encoder in its cable head-end facility in the second quarter of 1999. DiviCom's head-end equipment will be an integral part of the new digital service MediaOne is launching at two sites in the US.

"Through the selection of initial partners like DiviCom and an OpenCable compliant platform, we will launch a strong Digital NexTV product with the capability to easily add new partners with innovative services and applications in the future," said Joe Wetzel, Vice President of Technology for MediaOne. "DiviCom's expertise will help us meet our goals for the deployment of digital video."

"By the time MediaOne receives its award, DiviCom will have shipped an additional 200 encoders to other customers throughout the world," said Tom Lookabaugh, president of DiviCom. "Our customers continue to depend on DiviCom to provide them with the highest value in MPEG-2 encoding solutions."

"We are the only company in the digital television market entirely focused on MPEG processing solutions, which enables us to provide the most innovative and reliable open solutions, integrating with but not competing with best-in-class professional equipment, consumer electronics, and security vendors," continued Lookabaugh. "This specific combination enables us to best meet our customer's individual requirements."
