HEADLINE GBA Industrial buys 60% of Arkansas sawmill firm



GBA Industrial Equipment Inc. is buying 60% of Hi-Tech Engineering, Inc., of Hot Springs, Ark., a specialist in sawmill technology and automated handling systems with operations in Quebec and Vancouver. The price was not disclosed. GBA is a machinery firm acquired last year by Schroder Canadian Buyout Fund II, the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board and a unit of the Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec. The enlarged GBA will have annual sales of $175-million, 1,200 employees, 10 plants in Quebec and the U.S.
