Lather, in order to refute the cocaine in the mummies theory of them getting it from South America, you would have to also explain away the Bay of Jars there, which I think would be difficult.
If you remember the program well, you will recall that the discussion of who was refuting this explanation came down to the most conservative part of the archaeological academic establishment, which is conservative indeed, facts or inconvenient evidence to the contrary.
I don't think hallucinogens were illegal and socially scorned like they are now, so perhaps seekers and intellectuals in particular would have been curious about them. If it was all right to see visions and perform magical tricks in general, certainly there may have been room for chemically-induced hallucinations.
Of course, as I have said before, we are speculating on whether someone who we cannot prove even existed used drugs, an interesting mind play for intellectuals with spare time, but a mental exercise most of all. Like just for fun, dude!!!!! |
