Richard, you might be thinking of affymetrix and this press release: affymetrix.com Santa Clara, CA — August 5, 1998— Affymetrix, Inc., (NASDAQ: AFFX) announced today that it has entered into a series of agreements with Beckman Coulter, Inc. (BEC:NYSE) that will provide each company with a path to commercialize DNA arrays under patents owned by or licensed to the two companies, including patents issued to Professor Edwin Southern of Oxford University (the "Southern Patents"). Under the agreements, Affymetrix and Beckman Coulter will cooperate to develop and commercialize GeneChip® and other DNA probe arrays and related instrument systems for the bioresearch and diagnostic markets. In addition, the agreements anticipate cooperative arrangements that will provide others with access to this technology.
