I think if you read the UC Davis report carefully, they agree that oxygenates are useful. The most cost beneficial solution is to haul the junkers off the road. I doubt that they will be successful with that approach. State of the art engines do not need oxygenates. But you have to remember that over 1/2 the new vehicles in CA are trucks or SUV's which get the truck waiver from air pollution standards. The report fails to address such realities. It may take a lawsuit from a water district against the petroleum industry to speed things up. I would not be surprised if that happens. MTBE is creating a real monster. Charlie
