Apple Media Software Challenges 2 Rivals.

By JOHN MARKOFF - New York Times

>Separately, at the National Association of Broadcasters meeting
in Las Vegas, Apple executives said today that its new server
software would have the support of several key hardware
manufacturers, including *Cisco Systems, I.B.M., Silicon Graphics
Inc. and Sun Microsystems*.

The result will be relatively inexpensive server computers that will
allow independent artists or small businesses to offer programming
to large audiences over the Internet.

Industry analysts said today that Apple should have a significant
advantage in the market for Internet multimedia software since
much of the multimedia material already offered on line was
originally created in the Quicktime format.<
