Shqipe was a lady who stood out during our second visit to the camp. She speaks English fluently, and was able to relate her experiences during the sixteen days that she has been at the camp, after spending a few days in the rain at the border. One thing that has definitely stood out in my mind is the significant lack of United States presence in the refugee camps. Many other countries are represented except the United States.

Another major concern, since only the very raw basics are being taken care of is trying to reunite those who have family members in other camps, or confirming the actual "fate" of family members. This is taking a huge emotional toll on those in the camp. I hope there is a way to try and coordinate a data base of who is in the various camps, so those family members can find out one way or the other what the status of their family members are.

There is a lot of friction between the Macedonian govt. and the refugee responsibility that has been thrust on them. I hope that as aggressive a response is being done by NATO to get this was over in most rapid a way as possible, to prevent this situation from blowing up.

I wish you all the best,
Fane
