This would come off, I'm afraid, like attempting to recruit people to do research for you. I think that a more cogent angle would be an appeal to what would benefit the particular audience. A reporter wants a cutting-edge story with drama, not the opportunity to help someone with an investment. A stock newsletter writer would like a leg up on other newsletters rather than the chance to help some stranger's investment. And be sure to assess the audience and make an appropriately objective appeal without sounding like a message-board cheerleader. Doing the latter would be the kiss of death.
