Scott- Exactly right. Can you imagine the result if a car/truck with 500+ pounds of fuel cell at 600 to 800 degrees C gets into an accident? One of the biggest benefits of the PEM cell is its low operating temperature.
Incidentally, someone here posted that the PEM will freeze up in sub-zero temps...true, unless the whole system is purged. If it is purged (i.e, all gas and liquid removed by pressure from innards of cell) it will start with no problems sub-zero. Regards, JK
