<<To my mind, it is less a matter of "liking to be the most powerful country", although I am not sure what is so wrong with liking to be successful, than it is a consequence of the fact.>>
Consequently I enjoy living in a powerful country and in economic prosperity. Problem...depends.
<<...although I am not sure what is so wrong with liking to be successful,>>
Ah yes, "Success" has to do with "getting what you want." Pretty simple, although it can be broken down a bit. There is a general sense of "success" that we as a Nation can achieve. "Getting what you want" has to be defined, before say that we are achieving success.
Success at what? According to the vision, expressly stated goals, principles, and letter of the constitution of our country, we are failing miserably. In this sense the whole intent of the constitution is to enable us to live in a land of freedom, where truth is a standard and justice is ensured for one and all; not only for its citizenry but in our dealings with foriegn entities. This, as you have seen by the polls and by the voice of the popular opinion represented on this thread is dismissed with nonchalance as unimportant; easily sacraficed in the presense of the booming economy.
Now lets look at economic prosperity and Global elitism/dominance which are going hand in hand. Here we have the sacred cow, that must be protected and for which every sacrifice (including freedom, truth and justice) is allowed. This too can be defined as success by those who want it. This is "going along" as I defined it earlier.
It is quite obvious that the general populus of US citizenry has a "go along" attitude these days. Do so, and you join the marading hordes, committing plunderous acts against the soveriegnty of our Nation and others. To make effective progress against these pillagers you must denounce the sacred cow, enjoyable as it is.
