Monday April 19, 9:02 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Unisys To Deploy Microsoft Windows 2000 Beta 3 in Worldwide Enterprise NT Centers CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 1999--At Windows World 99 here, Unisys Corporation today announced its support for Microsoft Windows 2000 beta 3, which will launch later this month.
Unisys said that it will evaluate the capabilities of this new version of the Windows 2000 operating environment and develop products and services to help customers deploy Windows 2000 when the final product is released later this year.
Unisys Enterprise NT Centers of Excellence and technology laboratories will play a key role in the evaluation process. These centers are unique in their focus on enterprise-class solutions to customers' most critical business computing requirements, and add special value in extending the benefits of the Microsoft/Unisys alliance to customers.
''Windows 2000 beta 3 affords Unisys an exceptional opportunity to extend our commitment to Microsoft technology as a linchpin in our strategy to be the premier provider of enterprise-class solutions based on open-systems technologies,'' said Joseph W. McGrath, Unisys senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
''Testing and evaluating beta 3 now will enable Unisys to have best-in-class services, solutions and server products ready to help our enterprise customers realize the full power and benefits of the mature Windows 2000 system.''
''Microsoft is excited that Unisys will extend its deep expertise in enterprise-class computing to deliver a wide range of Windows 2000 solutions, services and technologies to our mutual customers,'' said Brian Valentine, vice president of the Business Enterprise Division at Microsoft Corp. ''Unisys support for Windows 2000 beta 3 demonstrates the value Unisys delivers as a Microsoft enterprise partner.''
Unisys plans to use Windows 2000 Server beta 3 in the company's Microsoft Technology Center and Enterprise NT Performance Laboratories to optimize performance of the software environment on Unisys Intel processor-based enterprise class servers.
This early access will enable Unisys to engineer support for the advanced capabilities of Windows 2000 into its forthcoming eight-way servers based on the new Intel Pentium III Xeon microprocessor.
It will also help Unisys optimize the software environment for its 32-way partitionable servers, based on the breakthrough Cellular Multiprocessing (CMP) architecture, due to debut later this year. Unisys CMP architecture is the first in the marketplace designed to deliver true mainframe-class computing on Intel processor-based systems.
In its worldwide Enterprise NT Centers of Excellence, where the company develops critical expertise with Microsoft technology to support enterprise-class services engagements, Unisys will conduct applied research on application development using Windows 2000 Server beta 3.
This research will further enhance Unisys capabilities in developing business-critical applications on the Microsoft Windows platform that deliver enterprise-class attributes: scalability, high availability, manageability, security and interoperability with other systems.
Through the applied research, Unisys Enterprise NT Services experts will expand the range of solutions based on Microsoft technologies that they offer customers.
In addition, consultants of the Unisys Microsoft Solutions Practice, focused on distributed computing support services, will deploy beta 3 to extend their assessment of the requirements for Windows 2000 solutions in a distributed enterprise environment.
They will use the results of that extensive evaluation to develop creative new ways to integrate and support Windows 2000 in distributed, multivendor enterprise networks.
