For your collective information...

I contacted the Special Access Program for Health and Welfare Canada to discuss some matters. I spoke to the Director of the Program. One question that I did ask (which I thought we might be interested in) was the time frame for granting Notice of Compliance (NOC).

She indicated the target dates for granting NOC are 180 days for priority process. These are drugs in which there are no therapeutic alternatives available on the marketplace. For drugs that have therapeutic alternatives on the marketplace, the target is 360 days.

This is, of course, dependent upon there being no deficiencies in the submission. If deficiencies are identified, the company is notified and is given 90 days to respond. During this time, the clock stops ticking...this response time is added to the normal 360 days.

In addition, she could not identify whether a specific company has applied for NOC. Even if she could, it is proprietary information and thus, could not be released to me. Thus, we are dependent upon company statements.

Please do not ask me for the name and number of this branch...as far as I know, the number I used is meant for use by health care professionals.

Regards,
Jeff C
