A "lockdown" means orders will be drying up for software, as systems engineers tackle the y2k problem and put off training and installation of new software. Gates has already admitted that if he had 200,000 programmers working night and day on the problems, the problems would still be there the end of this year. 5 billion embedded systems to check doesn't go away easily.
