Teegir, AT&T is still not making sense to me. Isn't all they're proposing really just a glorified cellular phone system? The future is sceaming "Bandwidth". This system can't deliver can it? If I'm understanding correct (which I'm probably not), they won't even be able to deliver future internet access fast enough with it's streaming video, real time audio, wide area video conferencing, Java applets, 3D VRML, etc etc, let alone video on demand, video phones, etc. The competition, RBOC's with ADSL, Cable TV companies already covering 90% of the country with their cable modems, satelite companies like Hughes with their DirectTV already offering DirectPC, even Winstar with 38 GHz, all seem miles ahead. Or is AT&T just a phone company that just want to sign up people like my grandmother who just use phones for making voice calls? What am I missing?
(Sorry all for using your Winstar thread for kind of non-WInstar questions, just trying to figure where we'll all fit in the future.) |
