Hewlett-Packard Announces MediaStream Sales To DirecTV and Sinclair

Las Vegas (4/19)-Hewlett-Packard made two major sales announcements today at NAB.

DirecTV and HP have signed a multi-million dollar contract to upgrade their Castle Rock, CO broadast center from tape with HP's 16-channel MediaStream 1600 MPEG server. The sale consists of 12 MediaStream 1600s, which will perform content-receipt, storage, and playback of programming including short-form promotional spots, interstitials, and long-form sporting events. HP servers were also installed in DirecTV's Los Angeles broadcast center, which will go on-line later this year.

HP also announced that the Maryland-based Sinclair Broadcast Group will install 7-channel MediaStream 700 servers in its top 18 stations across the country beginning in the third quarter of this year. Sinclair will use the servers for spot insertions, with satellite feed management and play-out features to be added at a later date.

The MediaStream servers offer up to 1,000 hours of RAID-protected storage in 36 hour blocks with a Fibre Channel-based disk subsystem; MPEG 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 compression to 30 Mbps with HP's CleanCut capability for editing on any frame with a VTR-like jog/shuttle; and HP's high speed Connect and Connect+ high speed FTP protocol.
