Please, correct me if I'm wrong on those two
assumptions. So, we have met the enemy and he is us.

actually ISLD is people like you and me trading through Ameritrade, etrade, etc... i think MASH is Morgan Stanley, and NITE i am not sure about. anyway, they can trade between the spreads and make tons of money on thousands of shares. more float would tighten the spread and take away more of those types of trades.

also, that spread is simply supply and demand. it is not controlled by any computer, it is controlled by us. we create the bid and ask prices, wheras on NYSE a specialist makes them.
