Yes fragile security. When your country is no bigger than New Jersey and is only several miles wide, that is fragile. A fighter taking off from Jordanian airspace could be in Tel Aviv in **minutes**. Armored units can, and have, cut the country in half in a matter of hours. When a nation has a defensive reaction time margin of minutes, your damned right they have good reason to worry about their neighbors, especially when those neighbors are the PLO.
