What you see as "insider sales" are, for the most part NOT insiders. Close to all those shares you mention are being sold by shareholders of Vector Technology, which ATMI acquired in the Fall of 1994. None of those people are ATMI employees, or insiders. The purchase of Vector was done predominantly with ATMI shares, and the lock-ups on those shares expired a while back...thus the selling.
Any "true" insider selling is a function of normal cash needs for personal expenditures (cars, houses, college, etc.). Overall, you'll see that the management is holding onto its shares. We believe ATMI can make good things happen--and that all of us will get a lot more out of the stock if we hold instead of sell...of course, you get to make your own choices (meaning, simply: this is not a recommendation to buy or sell ATMI stock, and all that legal stuff.)
