Yes, that's fair, but think how difficult it is to compete against Intel on microprocessors and how much proprietary technology and billions of dollars in capital it takes. Is that true for the Internet industry? It took AMD about six year to come up to speed to start to compete effectively against Amazon. Within 7 months of Barnes starting their associates program they had more people signed up for it than Amazon had after their program was over two years duration. Starting from ground zero last summer, Barnes was able to come to where Amazon was nine or ten months ago. That is still running a distant second in web business but they are still much larger in book sales and distribution. I will give you that the image of Barnes is more like AMD to Amazon's Intel, but it's really not an apples to apples comparison by any means.

I am amazed! My 56k modem started to work at 56k for the first time since I got it. Maybe 'ol US West has finally taken the ballasts out of their phone system or updated (hopefully) to ADSL capability. I'm crossing my fingers that this is not a fluke caused by humidity in the phone lines or some other chance occurance.
