The way ATHM market itself is to be The High Speed (and higher priced) Internet Provider, rather than to be THE Internet Provider. The former is a 5% niche market at present, the other is the remaining 95% of the market at present. One way it can be THE Internet provider now, IMHO, is to offer a metered subscriber plan. $5 per month for very light users, $9.95 for light users, $19.95 for medium, or off-hour users, $40 per month for the current plan users, $40 and UP for heavy users. This will cover 100% of the Internet population. Very light, and light users are reluctant now to pay $480 per year for the subscription, and they rather go for the cheaper dial in ISP's, eventhough they are much slower, and tie up their phone lines.
By the way, can "Spread Spectrum" technology be used in a cable to increase carrying capacity? |
