Perhaps, but I doubt it.

I suspect that CPQ will soon become a teenager if not less but that's less than $4/share away.

DEC was a struggling Minicomputer maker that lost its niche and was being squeezed hard between IBM and the Workstation companies.

Tandem is about to lose its niche - look for recent news related to Newbridge Networks and Telehub for a much more capable, much less expensive, much more manageable solution that will throw Tandem's boxes out of COs.

And the original CPQ missed the boat when it came to the emerging ECommerce world. Dell has already eaten much of its lunch here.

Last straw in my mind is Rosen, the man with the power on CPQ's board, saying that the Strategy which led to CPQ's failure is "fundamentally sound". Either he's far less bright than the street gives him credit for, or he's got some kind of blind spot that's preventing him from recognizing reality even after it bites him.

I'd take the report with several grains of salt. (ok the Pacific ocean worth. ;-))
