Nuke,
My Mom went to college in Talequah,Oklahoma, which as you probably know is the Cherokee capital.
Your people have quite a history. I wonder how many Americans realize just how civilized the Cherokees and I assume the Creeks also were back in those times. The Cherokees actually were farming...some even had plantations, with slaves, (although I guess that wasn't too civilized, but they were just copying the white folks), and had their own schools and legal system. In fact, they so trusted in the American system of law that they went to Congress to fight for their lands legally. But for some reason, Jackson hated the Indians and there was gold found on their land and so nobody listened, and so the infamous Trail of Tears was the result. Not a very proud chapter in American history, and one not taught in too many history books.
Well, I have to consider myself only American, because most of my ancestors came here in the early 1700's and have been a part of every bit of history this country has had. But then there were my German ancestors who came here in the late 1800's and rooted for Germany in World War I. My Dad actually got spanked because he wanted America to win.
Well, outside of Decatur there was a laundromat that had a sign that said "Whites Only". Maybe it was illegal, but it was there. I guess I won't mention the Ku Klux Klan meeting I came across, and in the open, too. With sheets and hoods and all. Almost had a wreck, I did, when I saw that.
