ELNK and AOL S+P new BUYS!

By Mark Cavallone, S&P Equity Analyst

NEW YORK, Apr. 20 (Standard & Poor's) - S&P recommends that investors take a selective approach to Internet stocks, as yesterday's battering highlights the risk and volatility of the sector.

We believe negative sentiment, not shifting fundamentals, is responsible for the major selloff. Recent results from portals Excite Inc (XCIT) and Infoseek Corp (SEEK) are not indicative of slowing growth, but simply of seasonality after an exceptionally strong Q4. We believe Amazon.com (AMZN) will show a similar seasonal pattern.

Our best bets remain America Online (AOL), with its diversified revenue streams, and Earthlink Network (ELNK), with good relative value at six times our 1999 sales estimate. Both AOL and ELNK are ranked (buy).

Expect strong rebounds in these stocks. Near term target prices
AOL $190 and ELNK $120. EOM
