Emachines duel with 'value PCs'

CHICAGO -- Microworkz.com Computer Corp. is making a bid for the top spot in the growing "value desktop" PC market.
The Lynwood, Wash., startup officially launched its low-priced Webzter PC line here at Comdex this week, announcing that 100,000 units are now shipping. The three models -- the Webzter Jr., Webzter and Webzter Sr. -- ship with National Semiconductor Inc.'s Cyrix 300MHz MII, 366MHz MII and Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s 400MHz K6-2 400 processors, respectively, at prices ranging from $299 to $699.

Bundled with a year of Internet access and Corel Corp.'s WordPerfect software suite, Webzter is the centerpiece of Microworkz.com's "Everyone Deserves a Computer" initiative, which aims to bring PCs and the Internet to the 55 percent of U.S. households still without computers, officials said...
