Why? Your point is that in a random sample, more stocks are going up than down. That's wrong. The indexes are going up, most stocks are not. Also, your point is the equivalent of saying that the Detroit Lions can beat any football team if the other team doesn't try. People going long or short are not tossing darts, they are doing research and making educated decisions. If they are tossing darts, they aren't people, they are monkeys or sheeple. Dr. Seuss
