Interesting question about valuation--it seems to me that there are still fundamentals for companies like E*Trade, just that they're not the same ones that are traditionally used for most companies. E*Trade's report yesterday showed absolutely outstanding fundamentals for account growth, trading growth, investor equity, page views, and money spent per new account. I wrote a couple of weeks ago that I thought that EGRP was over-valued, but after reading the press release yesterday I'm not sure that I was right (admitting, however, that the answer depends on one's time frame). If E*Trade can keep up this pace for even a few more quarters, it's going to be a monster.
