According to IDC, the market is still in it's beginnings. The next few years will show strong growth. ADI should be in position to take advantage of the growth. IMO. "According to International Data Corporation (IDC), the global market for information appliances will grow to 55.7 million annual unit shipments in 2002, resulting in a 76 percent annual growth rate from 1998-2002. Much of this momentum can be attributed to the growth in NetTV, gaming devices and smart handheld products. By 2001, IDC expects there will be almost 11.5 million NetTV products alone shipped annually, attributing the growth to the recent efforts of the U.S cable industry for deploying interactive television and high-speed Internet access. The growth potential of broadband Internet access through digital cable relies on the ability to enhance the viewer's experience through creating Internet browsing applications such as electronic programming guides (EPGs), video-on-demand services, pay-per-view, e-commerce, and a variety of other revenue generating applications and services."
