Eric, You listen too much to M$ (Your favorite links even bear this out:->). "Java is JUST a language" is exactly what they want you to think. I should probably go into what Java is but I just don't have the time to explain each point but I guarantee you that it is MUCH more than JUST a language. Some thoughts: What other LANGUAGE (this does not mean tacked on libraries) has: Built-in Security features Platform-independence Multi-Threading Garbage collection Networking User Interface A quote from The Java Programming Language by Arnold and Gosling "Defining everything possible about the language and its runtime environment enables users to run compiled code anywhere and share code with anyone who has a Java environment". That is why Java is and HAS to be more that JUST a language. The reason you haven't seen much from Java yet is that it takes time to build a good application NO MATTER WHAT LANGUAGE you use. Given that it was only a little over a year ago that that the first version came out and only a couple of weeks ago that an industrial strength version came out all I can say is you ain't seen nothin yet. It takes 1-3 years to develop any kind of application of any size so I predict that during the next year you will start seeing announcements of Java applications roll out the door and by the end of that time everyone will be wondering if the entire world isn't doing Java. (I bet even M$ is hacking like crazy to get their apps to Java :->).
