Avid Technology Taps Data General CLARiiON Full Fibre Channel Storage for Networked Digital Media Solutions
Data General CLARiiON and Avid Team Up at NAB '99 to Demonstrate Avid Unity; Avid's Collaborative Digital Media Production Solution
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1999-- The CLARiiON Advanced Storage Division of Data General Corporation announced today at the NAB '99 Conference that its CLARiiON FC5000 full Fibre Channel storage array will provide the networked storage backbone for Avid's newly announced digital media production solution, Avid Unity. In order to deliver true collaborative digital media creation solutions with simultaneous access to media during the post-production process, Avid Unity relies on the high-performance, high scalability and integral data availability provided by the CLARiiON FC5000. As post-production processes are continually evolving into digital-only environments in the broadcasting industry, advanced storage solutions, such as CLARiiON, play a critical role in successful digital media production.
''Avid Technology, an innovator in digital media technology, is continually developing products that are revolutionizing the digital audio and video community,'' said Dennis Hoffman, director of product marketing of networking and storage for Avid Technology. ''CLARiiON has been a long-time provider of advanced disk storage solutions to Avid, and as the first storage provider to deliver complete, end-to-end Fibre Channel storage solutions, has played an important role in our ability to develop such innovative solutions as Avid Unity.''
''CLARiiON recognized very early on that full Fibre Channel storage solutions would play a critical role in emerging multi-media and video technology applications, such as Avid's Unity,'' said Joanne Masingill, vice president of marketing at CLARiiON. ''Avid Technology has been a long-term business partner of ours because they also recognize the added value that CLARiiON full Fibre Channel storage solutions bring to the table for their entertainment industry customers.''
