DT,

I live in Littleton and my wife works for the school district at an elementary school several blocks from Columbine. I really don't think the media did that bad a job. The interviews with the kids actually seemed to help my own two through some of it.

I do have a serious issue with the "experts" that come on and say it the community's or society's responsibility to fix the problem. Reminds me too much of the first Clinton term where it seemed they were all set to move into "in loco parentus" and have the government take over the role of the family. Give me a break.

I'm sure we'll see the parents of the evil killers were as low-life as the perpetrators. That's where the problem is. That's the first line of defense for the rest of us. I don't know how far parental responsibility needs to extend but they're in a much better position to see when their kids have gone psycho than the schools, churchs, society, etc.

Face it. "Our" generation (I'm 47) has done a good job of degrading their role in bringing up their kids. Remember that 8 year old who was going to fly across the country solo and then crashed in Wyoming. Her mom said she had a right to "do her own thing".

Too much ganga in past years has made many adults more juvenile than their kids.
