Believe it or not, many individual shareholders sell blocks of MSFT in the 100 - 1,000 share range. Also, many institutional holders will sacrifice small block trades to create momentum pressure only to return at a lower price to buy larger quantities.

MSFT is one of the safest stocks for this to be done with since it has such great liquidity and therefor there is little chance that long term damage will be done to the stock (look at the ten year chart!!!).

This happens all the time, especially when there is a large emotional element to the stock trading as there has been with MSFT over the past few days.
