NEW YORK, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Hollywood Trenz, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: HTNZ) Chairman Ed Showalter was arrested on March 10, 1997 in Phoenix, Ariz. on charges involving "fraudulent schemes" and "theft." The arresting officer was Detective Rick Hargus of the Phoenix Police Department's Document Crimes Unit. If convicted, Showalter faces a possible 12-year prison sentence in Arizona. In addition, he is currently serving a 15-year probation sentence, for a 1988 no-contest plea to grand theft, in Florida. Showalter could have his probation revoked and be made to serve out those remaining years in a Florida prison as well, for violating terms of the probation. For the last three years, the beleaguered Showalter has promoted Hollywood Trenz and promised to build hi-tech, Hollywood theme entertainment centers throughout the U.S. His early grand forecasts to investors, called for opening five centers by the end of 1995, generating $150 million in revenues, and 51 centers by the end of 2000, with over $1.5 billion in sales. To date, the company has no operating facility, and generates no operating revenues. It had begun construction on a facility in Phoenix back in July, 1995, but the project has been stalled for some time by contractors filing mechanics liens for nonpayment, numerous bounced checks and charges of securities fraud. A similar project had begun in Denver, Colo. in 1996 and stalled for similar reasons. During this period, Showalter has managed to run a public company, despite concealing his shady past which includes: personal bankruptcy, prior business failures, the aforementioned plea of "no contest" to grand theft charges in Florida and a litany of liens and creditors which litter his kingdom known as Hollywood Trenz. The company is currently battling a proxy contest forced by shareholders seeking to remove Showalter and his Board of Directors. As stated in filings with the SEC, the shareholders allege gross mismanagement, and securities fraud for personal enrichment, amongst a host of other charges. Presumably because of his activities, the SEC has launched a formal investigation into Hollywood Trenz. The company has been represented by public relations firm Creative Media International (CMI).
