Brazil: Growth in the Latin American PCs market

The Latin American personal computers market grew by 10% in 1998 to 3.7mil units, compared with 3.3mil units sold in 1997, according to a survey by Dataquest. Brazil showed a 7% growth in the market, and Compaq led the regional market with a 24,5% growth in sales, followed by Hewlett Packard 9,3%, and IBM up 0,5%. Compaq holds 19,3% of the regional Latin American PCs market, IBM 10,3%, and Hewlett Pacvkard 7, 3%. On the other hand, the lap top computers amriet grew by 29% in 1998.
