Re : Can anyone tell me what they mean by "a trading buy"?

I have a suspicion that those specific words are chosen in case the following happens :

Brokerage firm A says stock XYZ (currently $75 a share) is a "trading buy."

Stock XYZ trades higher than $75 for at least one second.

Stock XYZ later plunges.

"Crybaby" followers of firm A's advice are told : "Look, we never recommended that you hang on to XYZ stock; we only implied that you could at least get a few bucks out of it, if you were a nimble trader."

Since the long term trend in stocks is up, a brokerage firm does not risk too much by declaring things "trading buys."

Jon.
