Mike... not that I can answer you directly... but perhaps to help you wade through various consideration; here's more food for thought....

1) did you read J. Jubak's recent article on Inktomi (see message #1183). Jim seems to have a good handle on how to evaluate the pricing model.

2) INKT has 3 areas: search, cache, shopping/comparisons
and yes they're getting a nice stipend for the search capabilities but I believe they're trying to leverage the newer capabilities for higher rates of return. Evidently their scaling capabilties (for caching are pretty awsome, and there's not a lot of competition there). The CEO was on CNBC and tauted their new work in content (related to shopping and ecommerce), saying it was embryonic (as in the market is by no means saturated only just becoming aware of the potential).

3) INTK has received a buy (at least) from Goldman Sachs (along with a couple of other web services companies: DCLK, EXDS), and several other investment houses... these are pretty powerful recommendations coming from a pretty reliable research groups... presenting recs to folks with a lot a money who want to invest in winnners.

4) there was an article posted over the weekend about how INTK was a company/stock that would hold up even in a internet meltdown....
I think a lot of folks are looking to INTK as one of the future internet blues...

5) Management has an excellent track record and apparently delivers, so are trusted by wallstreet.

So.. some additional food for thought as you ponder the revenue stats on search capabilities (although I think searching is only a small segment of the huge opportunities with INTK).
