Rosen has been a big advocate of a strong and independent board as a counter to the "cult of personality" that has created problems in a lot of otherwise great corporations. He is in fact heading the company now but the right balance is to get an energetic, capable and seasoned CEO who understands the current market and has the operational skills to pull CPQ together. The right guy could easily turn CPQ around - CPQ has put all of the pieces together to be the dominant computer company of the next decade, and has just not executed over the last 2 years. When that execution happens, the new leader, who will have tremendous power based on that success, will need the same checks and balances with the board which have served CPQ well in the past.
