Meathead, I think it will be more than just a surge. Sure, CPQ is in disarray because they are a rudderless company, but more importantly they have no compass. I don't think that Rosen or Pfeiffer ever had a vision of where the company was headed. If you are going to be successful in a commodity business you need efficiency, and that is the one thing Compaq lacked because of its adherence to channel distributors.

I think that any real attempt to straighten up the channel mess is at least a couple of quarters away, and that means more opportunity for Dell.

Frankly, I don't care about what the analysts say tomorrow or the next day. My eyes will be peeled on the second and third quarters' top-line results. I'm expecting blow-out quarters. I also think that IBM will do well in those quarters.

The funny thing about CPQ is that their channel problems (and thus their inventory problems) were so predictable.
