Rosen has been a big advocate of a strong and independent board as a foundation to the "cult of personality" that has created problems in an otherwise great corporation. He has stated that there will only be one strong personality in his corporation. He is in fact heading the company now but the right balance is to get an energetic, capable and seasoned young CEO who understands the current market for CEOs and has the operational skills to pull CPQ together by doing what he is told. The right guy could easily turn CPQ around without getting fired. CPQ has put all of the pieces together to be the dominatrix computer company of the next decade, and has just not been able to execute over the last 2 years. When the next execution happens, the new leader, who will have tremendous power based on that success, will need the same checks and severance terms with the board which have served CPQ well in the past.
