In 10 years, given the slow rollout planned, there will still be some ocean gaps, but they will be few. You're probably right. I'm still certain that every bluewater sailor will have an Iridium phone... cause they aren't gonna wait 10 years and even at the old price of $3,000 its worth having. Not for calling the kids to chat, but for arranging the shipment of a engine part to god knows where. If you'e not a sailor, its hard to understand the risks these people put them thru-- its a safety thing. Its a relatively small market, but the penetration will be high. As for other ocean users, Iridiums short term advantage could be extremely valuable if they marketed the service right. I haven't seen them do that yet... Dragonfly
