The "cede" root always seemed more appropriate as it connotes surrender. "Sede" (to sit with) almost seems counterintuitive.
I know you're correct though (just took the spelling test posted earlier in the thread) and I appreciate your pointing it out.

Following the preposition "rule" can yield some very awkward and stilted sounding verbiage--as can many other injunctions. I typically rely on my ears as syntactic filters, but under the crush of deadlines, and the mind f###s that endless copy revisions create, I sometimes lose my intuitive compass.

Which grammatical rule applies to the use of "which" vs. "that"?
