I'm convinced there will be substantial rewards for someone in the home scanning device area. The only question is who. Apparently some think it will be Visioneer (up nicely today) and some are betting on Storm Technology. The Visioneer products seem nicely designed. The Storm products look a little more like toys, as in, not very high-tech. They make actually be technically superior for all I know but I think they need to take a serious look at their design. It has to look as good as it works. Just look at the Zip compared to a Syquest drive. Zips just look cooler. People want to own cool looking stuff. They will even choose a technically inferior product if it looks cool enough. Just look at the auto industry. Digital cameras and scanners certainly make for cooler email messages. A buddy of mine has a JVC digital camera (with full motion video and sound). It's by far the best digital camera I've ever seen and completely replaces video cameras as far as I'm concerned. I love getting emails from him because they always have great photos attached (he also has a HP scanner). My next camera and next video camera with be digital and may be one in the same. I will buy a scanner first. All of this requires storage. Removal storage that is easy to organize seems like a natural companion.
