To Thread,

Some of you are fairly negative on Rosen resulting from a decline in today's cpq stock price in conjunction with the annual meeting. You were hoping that Rosen would be able to pull out the stops (and possibly a rabbit as well) and create a major pep rally at today's meeting. You assume that nothing significantly positive came out of today's meeting since the stock has dropped. And so now Rosen is a dummy.

Don't you think we just might be a bit hasty in judging Rosen. I haven't met Rosen and know nothing about him other than he's chairman of the board and co-founder of cpq. But he's got a lot on the plate right now. He certainly doesn't have a firm grasp of all the details. And a good manager/acting ceo has got to understand the facts, before any decisions can be made. So he will be spending a lot of time in the next a week or two being briefed by his direct reports. And to have expected Rosen to be totally briefed and prepared to provide guidance by today's meeting was simply unrealistic.

I, like you, would have loved to hear Rosen declare a detailed plan to lift cpq out of its doldrums. But I didn't have any expectation that this would actually occur. Give him some time.
