My problem here is that gun control is being promoted as violence control. It is shifting the blame for a behavior onto an instrument. Let's imagine for a moment that all firearms were banned nationwide. The decent citizens would largely be forced to turn them in (after the attendant Constitutional crisis that might just be the last straw in the fiction of a representational gov't). But the we have concentrated the guns into two groups - cops and criminals. I submit that violence and killings and armed robberies etc. would spike up.
And at the same time, the civil right of firearm ownership would have been dismantled.

If the goal is to undo gun ownership - then by all means pursue gun control. But if violence, safety, social decency are the goals, banning guns is a red herring imo.
