RAScom, Inc. Named to Hot 100 for the 2nd Consecutive Year

SALEM, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1999--RAScom, Incorporated, the pioneer and leader in the market for open systems remote access servers has been selected as ''one of the hottest new small businesses in the country'' by Entrepreneur Magazine and its parent company Dun & Bradstreet (D&B).

This marks the second consecutive year RAScom(tm) has received the award. Mark Galvin, Chief Executive Officer of RAScom, said, ''We founded RAScom because we saw the opportunity to provide enterprise networks and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) remote access solutions that offer higher performance, lower cost, superior flexibility and greater ease of installation and maintenance than conventional remote access solutions. The market has responded and we're grateful to Entrepreneur Magazine and Dun and Bradstreet for their recognition.''

RAScom was founded in 1996 by Galvin, who previously founded Primary Rate Incorporated, which was sold to Xircom, Inc. (NASDAQ:XIRC - news) in 1995. RAScom is funded by individual investors and leading venture capital firms, including Charles River Ventures, HVP, Pioneer Capital, and Star Ventures. On April 14, 1999, Excel Switching (NASDAQ:XLSW - news) announced the signing of a definitive agreement for Excel to acquire RAScom. The deal is expected to close within two weeks.

Galvin added, ''The technology RAScom developed for enterprise and ISP customers is scaling nicely to address opportunities for multiservice access switching in the CLEC and telco markets. We're looking forward to our new partnership with Excel Switching and to an acceleration of the strong growth we have experienced over the past few years.''

RAScom markets EXS® RAServer®, RAServer Series 2000 platforms and Primo Remote Access Server Adapters through direct sales, select channel partners, and its European subsidiary, RAScom GmbH. The company also has OEM relationships with major server vendors--including Compaq Computer (NYSE:CPQ - news), NEC, Siemens, and Acer America.

Selection of Hot 100 companies was based on criteria established by Entrepreneur Magazine and D&B. Data was culled from the D&B database which tracks over 11 million companies in the United States. The criteria for selection included:

-- The founder actively involved in daily operations -- The business founded no earlier than 1996 -- Annual sales in excess of $1 million in 1998 -- Companies meet the Small Business Association definitions of a small business based on number of employees and sales figures -- Other industry-specific criteria

This year's Hot 100 list will be published in the June issue of Entrepreneur Magazine. For more information on Entrepreneur Magazine, visit www. entrepreneurmag.com. For more information about D&B visit www.dnd.com.
