*OT* Chuzz, I've got the scoop on Michael Burke...
He first came to fame as an American photographer in Italy in the mid- 1950's.....upon seeing a young model/actress hopeful from Sicily, a young lady named Sophia Loren, his only comment was, "Her nose is too big...she'll never make it"...
Later, in the 1960's, he worked as an art critic in New York City...During that time, he met a young man who had some (according to him) odd ideas about art...who wanted to paint modern objects, in a modern, colorful (sardonic) style.....He told the young man, "That'll never sell, and you'll be a nobody forever"......The young man's name: Andy Warhol
In the 1970's and early 1980's, after the Warhol fiasco, his reputation ruined, he moved to a small town in North Carolina, and began coaching basketball.....One year, during fall try-outs, he decided to cut a young man who had made the team the previous year, but had not convinced the coach of his talent....Coach Burke told the young Michael Jordan, "Son, you need to start thinking about a career in baseball"...
By the 1980's, about the only thing left was money management <G>
(All in jest of course...he is obviously very knowledgable...I just don't share his "the glass is half-empty" sentiment about the market, nor his selective use of available data...) |
